Christmas at the Novitiate

Mission statement

The novitiate of St. Francis was "the time during which

he fell in love with a consequent desire to give up all

that was not Christ and to change his lifestyle"

(Franciscan Discipleship, no. 62).

It is the purpose of the Conference Novitiate

to develop with the novice, through formal instruction

and a lived experience, a deeper commitment

and love relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

In addition, the novitiate provides

an atmosphere and lifestyle and identity

based on the Franciscan ideal as stated in the

Rule of St. Francis and the Constitutions of the
 Order of Friars Minor Conventual.

Having begun upon his journey of conversion in the pre-novitiate,
the novice is called to deepen his choice according to the example of Francis.
Consequently, he must move toward the following:

- a deeper understanding of the divine call;

- a change of heart and mind according to the spirit of Francis
- an experience of this new way of living in fraternity;

- a clarification and assessment of the stability of his own motivations;

- a self-reflective assessment by the novice of his "fit" as a Conventual Franciscan friar.
